INNERWORKER

Originally derived from a regular 'animate object' spell cast on a barrel, the innerworker is a construct combining the crafting and magical talents of dwarves and gnomes. Highly appreciated in taverns, they are given various nicknames ("drink buddy", "patron's pal"), and sometimes even have an official name well-known to the regulars. An innerworker stands approximately 3 feet tall. They do not speak, but obey orders as precisely as possible.

Their beginning seems to date back to an old tale, of which there are almost as many versions as there are people who tell it. The core of the story is always the same: two talented tavern keepers, a gnome and a dwarf, once discovered a mimic disguised as a barrel, which inspired them to create the first innerworker. Since its invention in the underground cities, this automaton has been extensively exported to the surface and worldwide. It is not uncommon to find them in human cities, or accompanying halfling nomads on the roads.

TONNEAUBERGISTE

À l'origine issu d'un simple sort d'animation d'objet lancé sur un tonneau, le tonneaubergiste est une créature artificielle mêlant les talents d'artisanat et de magie des nains et des gnomes. Très apprécié dans les tavernes, on lui donne divers surnoms ("le pote de cuvée", "l'ami du patron") quand il n'a pas carrément un nom officiel bien connu des habitués. Un tonneaubergiste fait approximativement 1m50 de haut. Il ne parle pas, mais obéit aux ordres aussi fidèlement que possible.

Leur génèse semble remonter à un vieux conte, dont il existe pratiquement autant de versions que de personnes qui la racontent. La base de l'histoire reste toujours la même : deux talentueux taverniers, un gnome et un nain, découvrirent un jour une mimique camouflée en tonneau, dont ils s'inspirèrent pour fabriquer le premier tonneaubergiste.

Depuis son invention dans les villes souterraines, cet automate s'est largement exporté à la surface et aux quatre coins du monde. Il n'est pas rare d'en trouver dans des métropoles humaines, ou accompagnant des nomades halfelins sur les routes.
