Langsuyara, "the Lemure Queen", looks like an enormous greenish lemure, reaching over 20 ft. in height. She is constantly surrounded by a "court" of hundreds of evolved lemures, whom she treats like her children. Her lair, the Pit of Humors, is located on the first level of Hell, in Avernus. From the surface, the Pit is a gigantic, bottomless chasm from which emanate a foul stench. At the bottom of this abyss, an astronomical number of lemures are clustered, along with various oozes and other vermin.
Being among the weakest and least intensely evil of the archdevils, Langsuyara is unanimously despised by the other lords of the Nine Hells. Yet, while even the most ancient fiends were eventually dethroned by their rivals, the Lemure Queen has historically never been removed from her position. Indeed, few archdevils would be inclined to occupy such a vile and degrading post, due to the pathetic nature of lemures. But the wisest know the truth: if lemures are weak, they are also—by far—the most numerous devils in Hell. Thus, although they publicly display only contempt for the Queen, all the infernal lords know the consequences that await them if she is thwarted. During suicide attacks that sacrificed billions of lemures, or when one of her rivals, who believed that she was weakened, attempted to invade her domain, dark records tell of unprecedented lemure uprisings. Overwhelmed by an army so vast it covered the horizon, Langsuyara's enemies vanished, swallowed up by the depths of history.
Fortunately, despite her capacity for thought, Langsuyara seems content to watch over her charges, the lemures. She is aware of their role (which is generally limited to cannon fodder), but she also knows they are the first step of the infernal hierarchy. Even the most powerful devils were possibly, eons ago, mere lemures who slowly climbed the social levels. Despite this, Langsuyara doesn't hesitate to use her unintelligent minions herself as she sees fit, or to hire them out to other devils for their armies. She harbors boundless hatred for Juiblex, her demonic counterpart, and regularly attempts incursions into his Abyssal plane to weaken him. However, she knows that the slightest sign of weakness would encourage the other devils to attack her; therefore, she cannot devote as much energy as she would like to her crusade. Langsuyara's symbol, though rarely used, is a green lemure. Degenerate beings who worship oozes, devils, Law, and Evil sometimes venerate the Lemure Queen. Among them are some aberrations, such as aboleths and illithids, as well as a various aquatic creatures and a few abject humanoids. |
